Note: this mask is much larger than the miniature ones.
The masks were used to invoke benevolent spirits during secret society meetings. They also demanded offerings from initiates during initiation ceremonies such as libations. In addition to warding off evil, the masks also served as witnesses during initiation ceremonies.
