The Kota created stylistically unique reliquary figures, called mbulu-ngulu, which are covered with brass or copper.
Like the Fang, the Kota kept the remains of their ancestors in containers, which consisted of a basket surmounted by the carved
figure. Such figures were believed to ward off supernatural intervention. The figure was brought out occasionally with the villagers
gathered to renew the villagers strength with that of their ancestors.
