Ghanaians have been trading with gold since the 15th century. The gold was weighed on simple scales, against weights of standard value. Goldweights were cast in bronze using the lost wax method.

The diamond shaped weight is ⅞" x ⅜" and the rectangular one is ⅞" x ⅝" x 3/16". They are all very unique in shape.
