The Seme, or Simi is a dagger, or short sword used by the Maasai. It has a leaf shaped double edged blade which is protected by a scabbard made of wood, covered with leather, and dyed red ( this has faded on this one). It is used for everything, and given to a Maasai man when he reaches the age to become a moran, or warrior, and it is then constantly worn and carried with him.
The blades of these swords were often made by giving down European-made pangas.
