Perspectives: Angles on African Art - by James Baldwin

Perspectives: Angles on African Art - by James Baldwin

$38.00
Softcover, slightly worn cover.
Shows examples of African sculpture, masks, dolls, jars, bronze vessels, and combs, and shares the comments of painters, sculptors, writers, a collector, archaeologist, and art historians.
This is not your typical African art book. Ten "co-curators"a diverse group of respected writers, artists, and scholarswere interviewed about their interest in African art and then asked to select ten objects they felt were extraordinary examples of African art and to articulate their thoughts on the objects. The works selected, all sculptures, are presented here in exquisite color and black-and-white photographs (and will tour in an exhibition). As a catalog of fine examples of African art this book is unquestionably valuable, though the commentary by the ten "curators" sometimes tells us more about these individuals than it does about African art.
