Pair of Fetish Post Figures - Yaka People, D.R.Congo

Fetishes were protective figures used by individuals, families, or whole communities to destroy or weaken evil spirits, prevent or cure illnesses, repel bad deeds, and decide arguments. A diviner or holy person would activate the statue, using magical substances.

Ceremonial figural posts from the Yaka tribe like this were used to line the route to the circumcision ceremony for boys. The portion below the neck was originally covered with cloth.

We have 2 of these, and they are sold as a pair.

The one is 24" in height with a 5 ½" diameter, and the one with raffia is a little taller at 25 ¼" with a 6" diameter. (No bases).
