THE NDEBELE ARE ONE OF THE MOST COLORFUL TRIBES IN ALL OF AFRICA. THEY PAINT THEIR HOMES IN BRIGHT GEOMETRIC PATTERNS & ADORN THEMSELVES WITH INTRICATE BEADWORK. A JOCOLO IS A FIVE PANELLED APRON WORN ONLY ON IMPORTANT CEREMONIAL OCCASIONS BY A MARRIED WOMAN. OLD JOCOLOS ARE BEADED WITH COMPLEX ABSTRACT PATTERNS ON GOAT SKIN. MODERN JOCOLOS ARE MADE FROM PLASTIC WITH STRIPS OF COLORED ELECTRICAL TAPE TAKING THE PLACE OF BEADWORK. THIS IS AN OLDER ONE THAT PREDATES THE 1950s.
