Mask - Luba-Kasai people, D.R.Congo

$4,000.00
From the western Luba, who are neighbors to the Bena Lulua, which is an umbrella name, referring to a large number of peoples who populate the region near the Lulua River, between the Kasai and Sankuru rivers.
The considerable area they occupy, explains the many stylistic overlappings with their neighbors. The masks represent the spirits of their ancestors and were more than likely used for circumcision and funeral ceremonies.
