Headrest, Swazi people, South Africa (6088)

$2,800.00
We collected this piece in Swaziland back in 1992, and it had been in our own private collection....until now.

The Swazi people who live North of the Zulu, carved headrests with vertically grooved rectangular legs.
Swazi headrests are similar in style to their neighbors the Zulu. Headrests have been used to protect elaborate coiffures that can relay the status, gender, and age of the wearer.

Dimensions: 17" wide by 7" tall by 4 3/8 " deep
