The fetish represents the "Pumba"
; a protective statuette. Of special
interest here is the power
ingredients, "MATENDA"
attached to the side of the body.
Today, the 300,000 Yaka people
living along the Wamba River.
The majority of the Yaka figures
are associated with Mbwoolo
shrines. Fetish material are attached in the
bundles of protective
pouches attached to the body.
Their purpose is multi-functional,
they can be protective as well
as cause illness.
