The cross of Zinder (its place of origin) would make an excellent central pendant, and is considered by the Tuareg as a symbol of wealth. The cross was used to trade for cattle by men and between times worn as a sign of wealth by their wives. In Niger, it is called ěTenelitî, which means a little millet - referring to its original use in trade, a staple food in Niger.
