Not our area at all, but we acquired this through the Ambassador Allen Davis collection, which had amazing African art pieces, and this beautiful fossil too.
We reached out to several natural history museums, and other experts in this field. We did get feedback like it is likely an Aturia nautilus, a cephalopod mollusk. Not uncommon in North Africa, and the fossil appears to have significant lateral geological compression.
It is also probably from the Eocene period (56 – 33.9 million years).
