Vintage Shipibo baby sling, handwoven and vegetable dyed. Traditionally it had bone dangles, which have been removed. These are extremely rare.
The Shipibo are a matriarchal society where the women hold most of the power, and are the primary artists in the community, famous for their fabric, and pottery decorated with maze-like geometric designs. They live in the jungle areas of eastern Peru - an area which has recently become better known for the hallucinogenic ayahuasca plant.
The sling is 45 inches in circumference with a seam at the back. The width of the fabric is 9 inches. (Front side is 22 ½" in length.)
