Arm Dagger - Hausa People, Nigeria - Sold

Traditional Hausa arm dagger, although these are also found among their neighbors like the nomadic Tuareg and Fulani. The hilt or handle, and sheath are covered in leather. The hilt has the distinct flared hourglass shape, while the sheath is made up of multi-colored, stacked leatherwork. The blade itself is straight, double-edge leaf shape, and was used primarily for self-defense.

It was collected back in the 1960's by Max Kirkeburg who was doing research into oral histories in the area at that time.
