Ancient Wooden Head - Tellem People, Mali M6 - Sold

Perfect form, with pin point eyes. According to Leonard Kahan, the head is crested in the style of the Dogon, Lobi and Mossi and is an early aesthetic synthesis of these styles. The Tellem, (meaning: "those who were before us" in the Dogon language), were the people who inhabited the Bandiagara Escarpment in Mali between the 11th and 16th centuries CE. The Dogon people migrated to the region around the 14th century.
