Kenya's soapstone is found in the
highlands of the Kisii district Western Kenya.
The artisans produce each piece of art without
the assistance of any mechanical device - all by hand!
Excavation of the raw quarry stone, carving,
polishing, painting and etching the piece are all
done manually. Each work of art is individual
and a reflection of the artists' creativity and
ingenuity. This one is stained black.
