women and are found instead on family altars.
Bracelets and anklets such as this were part of
marriage contract transactions. This particular
thick copper anklet was engraved or decorated
with "primitive" abstract designs protruding from
a center divide. These details have been empha-
sized over time with a developing blue-green patina.
