39 Sculptural Wrought Iron Currency Pods - Kirdi People, Cameroon, W.Africa

$395.00
These are sculptural iron pieces from the Kirdi people of Cameroon. Each pod like iron cache sexe/currency pendant is handcrafted and different, with individual pod like forms.
Used and oxidized patina, and in good condition with tribally used wear.
Women used to wear delicately forged pubic aprons when marrying, and throughout the rest of their lives.
In the book "Striking Iron", it says"each tapering pod curves in two directions simultaneously, demanding meticulous skill from the smith to create its distinctive convex curvature."
These elements from a Kirdi necklace or pubic apron are likely 19th century or early 20th century.
Ideal for jewelry making.

Each piece is approximately 3" in length. (76mm).
