Reputed to be the finest fighting men in East Africa, the Turkana number 250,000 and reside in N.W. Kenya. They live a nomadic lifestyle and are known for their ability to extract iron from a certain kind of rock to make certain kinds of weapons and tools. The ‘bracelets’ may look ornamental; however, when the thin leather strip is removed they become dangerous weapons.
The ararait or wrist knife is a specialized weapon once used in close quarters combat by the Turkana. Traditional weapon with goatskin edge wrap to secure the thin, sharp blade when not in use.
