The Ewe people live in the Southeastern part of Togo. It is believed that the Ewe women
keep the dolls underneath them while sleeping to ensure
fertility. Dolls with broken arms or legs are considered
to have more power for they ensure that the children
are born healthy and their limbs intact. Other scholars
believe that they are used as toy dolls.
