The first tree ornaments in Germany were made of thick glass. Handblown into shapely, mirrored molds of numerous shapes and sizes - this one being a heart shape.
Coated inside with what was called Mercury Mirroring ( also called silvered glass). It is a silvering formula of silver nitrate alcohol or ammonia and oil of Cassia, or tartaric acid, depending on which recipe is used.
