Usually representing spirits or ancestors , these figures exhibit a serene quality important to the Hemba people.
This figure has a hole/opening pierced on top of the head so that magical materials could be poured into the funnel-like top of the head.

are called "Singiti".The serene closed eyelids
reflect an interior calm. The
swelling belly and navel are a
sign of family and continuity,
with the hands embracing &
protecting it. These figures do

reflect on family & lineage.
