The divination bag of the Yoruba people in Nigeria is comprised of a square form, with
overlapping flap, stitched in
multi-colored beads in the
form of a face flanked by
various geometric elements.
The bag of Ifa (Apo Ifa) is
used by a diviner (babalawo)
to carry the set of 16 palm
nuts (ikin), the divining chain
(opele), & other ritual accessories. Ifa diviners were the
only non-royal group to use
beaded objects.
