Tusyan Necklace with Blue Glass Beads, (BF16) - Sold

Antique Bronze pendant from the Tusyan people in Burkina Faso, West Africa. Surrounded in a charming necklace of blue glass beads. The centre piece is a Spirit talisman from the Tusyan people of Burkina Faso. Diviners frequently used these as one of their divination objects. The figures represent ancestors, and are worn to obtain protection. According to Angela Fisher, in her book Africa Adorned, the four figure pendant is especially rare. Bronze pieces like these would all have been created using the lost wax method. In lost wax casting, a model of the object is made of wax and a clay mould formed around it. The wax is then melted out, or "lost" and the hot bronze is poured in. Each casting is unique, as the mould is broken to reveal the finished work. 20" Long, Pendant: 2.5" High BF16
