Description: The Tusyan are a small group of about 22,000
who live in the southwestern area of Burkina Faso. The
Loniake mask is surmounted by an animal head, which
symbolizes the protective totem of the clan & is worn
during initiations. Those who are not initiated may not
marry. The initiates are instructed in their roles as adults in
village society and are given religous training.
