The jewelry a Tuareg would adorn themselves with
depended upon their sex, marital status and their
position in society. A young girl would receive
small ‘ear-drop’ earrings shortly after birth. As she
reached puberty she would be allowed to wear
bangles and anklets, as well as beaded jewelry.
When she started courting she would don a chat-
chat or celebra necklace, both of which were associated
with young love and flirtation.
