Ceremonial Tunic - Wodaabe People - Niger
Price: $1,800.00

The nomadic Wodaabe people live in parts of Niger, Nigeria, and Cameroon. Each year when the rains come, they gather to celebrate the Geerewol festival. During this seven day celebration, the men display their beauty, charisma and charm in a dance called the Yaake, at the end of which girls can select the men they find most attractive. In preparation for the Geerewol, young men devote much time and care to their make-up and dress. Finely embroidered tunics such as this are made for them by their girlfriends and are proudly worn during the festival.
