Like nearly all art among the Lega, stools have a metaphoric use in the Bwami association, the primary secret society by which socio-political life is structured. Members at the level called Yananio keep their stools until death, at whcih time it is passed on to their replacement within Bwami. Stools designate status and represent the complete moral code of society. The figures facing in all directions remind the members that, as leaders, they should be aware of all that is happening in the community. 9.5"H x 8"Dia.> SOLD
