The Ambete are one of several peoples in Gabon who create guardian figures to protect the spirits of the ancestors. These figures are usually placed atop containers in which ancestral relics are stored. In this case, the figure itself is the container. It is made of wood, feathers, and rope fiber, and has an encrusted patina. On its back, the figure has a hinged door covering a cavity in which the relics would have been placed.

It measures 23" tall (not including the feathers), 6" wide, and 5" deep
