Masks such as this are used at the boys' initiation ritual in the N'Tomo society, first of the six secret societies to which the boys belong from the age of seven.
The human face is surmounted by a human or antelope figure along with several horns. The surface is sometimes covered with sheet metal or embedded with cowrie shells.
N'tomo means spirit of youth and the mask is meant to instill in them a sense of solidarity & discipline.
