Memorial Post - Bongo People - Sudan -Sold

Price: $0.00

modern-rd-addtocart.gif  modern-rd-viewcart.gif

This memorial effigy representing an ancestor was made by the Bongo people of Sudan and probably dates from the 19th century. The Bongo were later dispersed by Arab and Nubian raids. These elongated figures were evidently not portraits of the deceased, but rather generic evocations of ancestors. Each rounded form is said to symbolize an enemy killed in battle by the deceased.
