Loombeater - Baule People - Ivory Coast - sold

Price: $0.00

In Africa, most weaving is executed in narrow strips. These are then joined together to form a cloth of desired width. the main reasons are that weaving is a social activity that usually occurs in groups of people at a central location. Another reason is because many nomadic people weave and thus it is necessary that the weaving apparatus be portable. Strip weaving means that the loombeaters can be smaller and the cloth produced less cumbersome. The loombeater is part of the loom that acts as a kind of comb to tighten the rows of thread against each other to form a tightly woven cloth. The loombeater is made of wood and reeds. 9"H x 9"W x 2"D (measurements do not include stand)
