Loniake Mask - Tusyan People - Burkina Faso SOLD

The Tusyan are a small group of about 22,000 who live in the extreme southwestern area of Burkina Faso between Orodara & Banfora. The Loniake mask is surmounted by an animal head, which symbolizes the protective totem of the clan & is worn during initiations. Those who are not initiated may not marry. The initiates are instructed in their roles as adults in village society and are given religous training.
