The Kudo ceremonial vessels
were cast by the lost-wax process.
Offerings & sacrifices are
placed inside when "washing the
soul" and remembering the first
people of the clan. The Kuduo
served for the storage of gold
dust, other precious objects and
food. They were used as
prestigious containers and were
placed in front of ancestral stools
at times of sacrifices, and at
funerals. Usually decorated with
complex village scenes on the
lid.
This kuduo is exquisitely cast and features 11 figures around a mancala board, 6 chameleons, and a number of geometric patterns.
