Gre Mask - Bete People - Ivory Coast
Price: $795.00

The Bete live on the left shore of the Sassandra River in the southwest Ivory Coast near the Liberian Border. Their use and style of masks are derived from those of their neighbors, the We' (Guere and Wobe). The Gre' mask, with its grimacing face, distorting features, facial protruberances, and tubular eyes were intended to provoke terror and to scare away the hostile forces of the forest.
