Ceremonial Bowl - Manusian people - Papua New Guinea (4934)

Carved from a single piece of wood, bowls like this were used to eat from and were often made to be given away by the bride's family as their part of the wedding payments during ceremonies. These feasts with the ceremonies occurred at betrothal, puberty, ear piercing, marriage, and birth, as well as at silver anniversaries.

This bowl measures 20.75" in diameter and 6" deep. When displayed on the included, custom made stand, it reaches a height of 24"
