Chituwa Jemali - was born in Harare, the capital city of Zimbabwe in 1969. He started his career as a sculptor while still in High School. He was encouraged in his early years to pursue sculpting by the world-renown sculptor, Nicholas Mukomberanwa. Jemali spent years perfecting his skills while in his teens. He continued to develop his technique under the guidance of another Shona Master Sculptor, Moses Masaya. By 1993, Jamali’s work was being presented in galleries in Canada and the Netherlands. Today, the work of this work-class Master Sculptor has made it’s way to the Queen of Holland and collectors in Europe Australia, Canada, as well as Galleries in Germany, Holland, Canada and the USA. The artist continues to hold International exhibitions in Holland, Germany, Canada and the U.S. When he is not exhibiting his fascinating work, he continues to sculpt and tutor his assistants in his Zimbawean homeland, where he lives with his wife and three children. As Shona sculpture coming to the forefront of international demand, Jemali, stands as an internationally acclaimed artist and major contributor to the popularity of Shona art and the evolution of it’s form.
