Cameroon women pre 1960 wore
a cache sexe - (literally translated-
'to hide the sex') or otherwise
known as pubic aprons until the
governent intervened and required
women to be fully clothed. The iron
aprons were worn by mature
married women to indicate their
high status amongst the Kirdi
society. Today, beaded aprons are
worn instead of the iron and are
worn on special occasions such as
a weddings.
