Baule Twin Mask - Ivory Coast - SOLD

Price: $0.00

This mask symbolizes twins which for Africans are a good omen and welcomed by the Baule. Double masks can represent the marriage of the sun and moon as well. The dance ceremony which it is danced in is known as Mblo. The use of the 2 colors to differentiate the face is common. In the case of twin masks, both faces are likely to be the same sex. Masks of the Baule never represent ancestors and are always worn by men.
