Figurative weapons and other implements are used throughout Africa as signs of office and prestige. This fine axe from Tanzania features a long handle surmounted by a head with grooved hair and a slightly concave face. The crescent shaped blade is inserted below the neck and is secured through the middle. The corseted handle has a smooth patina from use. The handle measures 19" tall. The blade is 11" end to end.
