Zaramo Fly Whisk from Tanzania - SOLD

Price: $0.00

Although the Zaramo people were among the first encountered by the first Europeans to visit Africa, little is known about them. They are well known, however, as woodcarvers and have been carving realistic portraits since before World War I. Funerary figures are thought to be specific portraits. This traditional fly whisk is an example of their excellent darkwood carving with a unique figure carved above the knotting and hair whisk. It was a prestige object that belonged to a high ranking member of the tribe. It stands 36 inches tall mounted on a metal and acrylic stand.
