The thimba, or backskirt, of a young Ndbele woman from South Africa, is made of goatskin, or in later years canvas, and decoratively beaded. It would have been worn suspended from a beaded hoop with a grass core and was an indicator of being of marriageable age. Predates the 1950's. 25 1/2 x 25 1/5 inches (box 12)
