An Ndebele mother in South Africa will wear a handband to which is attached long strands of beadwork symbolizing tears or Linga Koba. These are worn to represent the sadness and joy when her son comes of age. From the African Heritage Trust Collection these "long tears" are 70 x 8 inches. (Box 7) Predates the 1950's
