From the African country of Ivory Coast, the Dan create these figures which are commissioned works and represent the first or preferred wife of a chief . It is a prestige object which the owner would present to the villagers with great pomp then store away, to be brought out only for important guests. This example is heavy wood with a black patina. The face is highly detailed including braided hair. It stands 15 inches and includes a stand. Call for more detail.
