This mask was collected in west Africa soon after the second World War around 1946 and we acquired it through an estate. The Dan people live in the northwestern Ivory Coast in west Africa. The racing mask,or Gunyege, is awarded to the faster runner in the village as he is important as a messenger in case of danger such as forest fire. 12 inches high
